Angie has been a long time coach for Delaware Special Olympics. Last year she was not able to coach due to other obligations. We are happy to announce that Angie is back!! Look for her at Track!
We would like to welcome Dr. Scott Kurzer to the Advisory Committee. He is a long time friend of Connie's family as well as their family physician. He is a big time fan of any Wisconsin sport.
Ohio Wesleyan University is currently not allowing anyone access to their facilities. They are keeping everyone safe in their "bubble". I do expect that they will continue with the exercise program in the fall and allow us to use their pool.
You can reach the entire committee by sending email to advisory-list@sodcoh.org.

We are highlighting Kara Huggins in this issue. In the picture, she is holding her artwork which was included in the SOOH Art Auction. Kara plays on the Lady Racers basketball and bocce teams. She works at Kroger in Sunbury. Kara entered the SOOH Art Auction and had her work chosen for sale and display. She enjoys meeting and making new friends. She likes most music. Her favorite color is blue. She is into trying new things. Kara also loves eating out and watching the latest movie.
SOOH is working to get all our athletes back to play and keep them safe. See their latest return to play guidelines. We will be following all their requirements.
Our own Walk to Support SODCOH Athletes raised more than $1,400 for our athletes during the pandemic when we couldn't get together. We will be expanding it this summer!
We are currently focusing on grant requests for donations. If you have any ideas or experience contact Connie.
We are registered with Kroger as a Community Rewards organization. Please visit the Kroger Community Rewards page and choose us as your organization. We are listed as SPECIAL OLYMPICS DELAWARE CO., organization number SA652. If you search for SA652, you will find us right away.
Don't forget to inquire about any employee matching programs your employers might offer.
OUR OPERATING EXPENSES TOTAL ABOUT $30,000 A YEAR.
WE HAVE AN EMERGENCY FUND THAT WE HAVE NOT HAD TO USE AND WOULD PREFER NOT TO HAVE TO ACCESS.
WE CANNOT EXPAND OR ADD OTHER SPORTS WITHOUT MORE INCOME.
THANK-YOU EVERYONE!!!
Dear Athletes, Families and Volunteers,
It's hard to believe that it has been a year since this pandemic started. Thankfully, we are coming back! I have a lot of questions just as you do. We will need to follow the SOOH guidelines but do have some choices. Outdoor sports will be opening first. Bocce, Track and Tennis are scheduled. Golf will open in June. It is more difficult to get indoor facilities. Willis has been closed for the past year and others aren't allowing any "outsiders" to schedule time and reserve indoor space. I think this situation will be better in the fall.
Other questions concern paperwork. Will we be able to extend time for expired medical packets and volunteer forms? Who does and does not need to complete the certification? And, what is the timeline for that? I hope to answer those questions soon.
Please understand that things are changing fast, sometimes daily. Info that I release to you may change before you get the information. We will be sending emails and Mailchimp info as we receive it to keep all of us as current as we can. I hesitate to give you specifics about how things will run because I expect that we might be out of Phase 1 and into another phase before April. As we get closer to opening I will send out all the "rules" we will need to follow. Be prepared to use a mask and hand sanitizer. Other PPE may be required. Everyone will need to sign a waiver before participation.
Look for registration in your email next week. You may sign-up for more than one sport but may compete in only one.
Thank-you for your patience and understanding! I hope to see all of you soon.
GO RACERS!!
